I'm enjoying this series so much! Looking forward to reading the next book sometime. My only picky point would be the way the ending was written. And less chapters that I felt ended abruptly like I mentioned in my review of Pippa of Lauramore. Errinton is a dark place under Bowen's rule, and it shows. It incorporates more magic (there's a wizard), dragons, and deeper subject matter. Similar to Pippa of Lauramore quite fast paced.Īnd the author's note at the end of the book's description was not wrong, this book was darker than the other two. Oh, also: Dryal consistently threw me for a loop. I thought it was interesting that despite his coldness and such towards her, when the wizard wanted to take some of her years, he adamantly refused. Seirsha's father. An interesting character to say the least. It was nice to have more of Pippa and Archer in this book. She cared for them, and they gave her a 'family' feeling. I thought it was admirable how she acted towards Bea and her family. Despite the way her relatives treated her, she still held on to her inner goodness, and did not turn bitter or anything. Seirsha is kind of like Audrey from Melanie Dickerson's Castle of Refuge. He seemed to be all broody and whatnot most times, but when he was with Seirsha, a different, more lighthearted, comfortable, and adorable (hehe) side of him was brought out more. I really liked Rigel's character in Pippa of Lauramore, so I was quite happy to read more about him. The characters were more likable and relatable, the plot was better, and it was just overall a great book! I liked this one a lot more than Anwen of Primewood. We also see soooo much more of the dragons. We see the stolen kisses and gallant declarations. I like that we get to see them be in love, rather than just declaring their love at the end. The love story in this book is more passionate than the other two. Seirsha plays the cold princess well but it is her bravery that makes all the difference. I love them and they just added to the rich crop of characters. I was pleasantly surprised to find Pippa and Archer having such prominent roles. It is about that Kingdom raising itself up, with the aid of some unlikely allies, to defeat the evil within its walls in hopes of regaining the greatness they once possessed. It is about a kingdom that has fallen into ruin, in part because of it's cold king. This book is much darker than the first two and it gripped me from the beginning. He is the man everyone suspects of treason, who has no desire to commit the act. He's in love with a girl he knows he can never have. He is a king who doesn't think he can ever be king. We get a glimpse of the kind of person he is when he saves the day in Pippa, but he is so much more. I really thought Archer was the ultimate love interest. Now the wait for the next one is going to be torture. I was very lucky that I just happened to start the series in the weeks before this was released so I didn't have to wait. My kindle didn't even have time to cool in the time between when I finished book 2 and began book 3. The point of the story, however, is not the cancerous evil that has spread through the kingdom, but the light at the end of the tunnel-the hope in the darkness.įor my younger readers and for those looking for a lighter read, this novel can be skipped without worry of missing important elements needed for the fourth book. In writing this, I directly dealt with issues that the other novels only vaguely alluded to. With another Dragon War looming and Errinton's oppressed rising against their leaders, will Seirsha betray her blood or turn her back on Rigel-the man she's loved her entire life?Īuthor's Note - This novel is darker than the previous two in the series and was written for a more mature audience. Seirsha knows she should keep her distance from Lord Rigel-the only man in Errinton with a legitimate claim to her father's throne-but when Bowen orders her to keep the dark lord close so she may spy on him, the princess must make a choice. The search for another successor begins, and the one man with the power to strip away the princess's walls steps back into her life. Seirsha finds peace only with a peasant family in the village and a very unlikely friend from the caves near the castle.īut after her involvement in the death of the male heir to the Errintonian throne, Seirsha's defenses begin to crumble. After living in the shadow of her father, the cruel King Bowen, the princess has learned to keep her distance, hiding her feelings and the love she has for her people. At least, that's how Seirsha hopes to be seen. The people of Errinton are cold, but none is more so than their distant and aloof princess. Sometimes the brightest love kindles in the bleakest of darkness. This is a previously-published edition - ASIN: B0180DB6M4
